Where are we in terms of a vaccine against COVID-19?

After the genetic genome of the SARS-CoV-2 was published on January 11th, 2020, the race to get to a vaccine was accelerated. The first COVID-19 clinical trial for a vaccine started on March 16th, 2020. As of April 8th, there are 115 vaccine candidates, 78 are confirmed where 37 are not confirmed. Out of all these, 73 are at exploratory or preclinical stages. 5 of these, which are the most advanced candidates have moved to clinical development. The vaccine effort seen globally in response to COVID-19 is unprecedented in terms of scale and speed. A lot of novel approaches are being explored as well.
