Under the federal law (EMTALA), you have the right to receive emergency care regardless of your ability to pay.
You have the right to receive interpretation services in the language of your choice.
You have the right to receive equal treatment in medical services without discrimination based on your race, age, religion, national origin, sex, sexual preferences, disability, diagnosis, ability to pay, or source of payment.
You have the right to receive an explanation of your medical condition, recommended treatment, risk (s) of treatment, expected results, and reasonable medical alternatives.
By law you must give informed and written consent before the start of non-emergency procedures or treatments after you have been explained details about the recommended procedure or treatment, the risks involved, the possible length of disability and all medical alternatives to care and treatment.
You have the right to receive advice on public or private benefits. This includes information about help with medical bills or reimbursement provided by charity programs.
You have the right to keep your medical information confidential. Your information should not be disclosed to anyone outside the hospital without your consent. This includes that your immigration information will be used only to determine your eligibility for benefits and not to enforce immigration laws.
It is not necessary to present a photo ID to receive medical treatment. Someone should not be denied medical treatment just because they do not have a photo ID.
Medical treatment or prevention services related to COVID-19 are not considered in any application for citizenship or public charge.
